Monday Feb. 16th 2026 I ran the low-key Tunis Marathon in Tunesia. Find below my full race coverage from this event and a few tourist impressions from and around Tunis.
Tunis and Carthage
Obviously, the big thing visiting Tunis is the ancient City of Carthage and the legend of Hannibal. Having spend a lifetime reading about the Punic Wars against the Roman Republic, it was both fascinating and strange to inspect just how little is left since then, well, it’s been just 2000 years, so, maybe not that strange at all. The main attraction was the Baths of Antoninus givning many associations to my beloved Rome but also other Roman Empire ruins, including in Split, Croatia (Palace of Diocletian).
Ok, so worth of mention from Tunis is also the lovely area of Sidi Bou Saïd where all houses are kept in white/blue colours ans sporting several great view points over the Mediterranean Sea and good restaurants.

Tunis Marathon 2026
This was a low-key marathon with a small group at start very early Monday in Tunis. As I had not run a single meter for two months (!) up to the race, I was actually surprised that I managed to “run” up to about km 38, albeit very , very slowly. Still, we all enjoyed the beautiful sunrise over the Lake of Tunis, the route was flat and easy and we could thus all pack the first of two marathons this third week of February 2026.
